Valérian, Dominique
Université Lyon 2As a graduate in History and former member of the School of Rome, Dominique Valérian is a specialist in the medieval history of the Mediterranean and Islam. After the completion of his PhD dissertation about the port of Bougie, Maghreb (Rome, 2006), he got his chair award with a research project investigating ports and exchange networks in the medieval Maghreb (forthcoming in Madrid). In particular, it works on the structure of exchange spaces and relations between Christians and Muslims in the Mediterranean, with particular regard to the regulation of violence. He was Professor of medieval history at the University of Paris 1 (2001-2011), and he now is professor of medieval history of the Islamic countries at the University of Lyon 2 and member of the UMR 5648 CIHAM.
